Welcome to Ide Today, a blog containing a melange of information. I usually write about software development and advancements in science, but I'll also post anything that I find useful or interesting. "Ide" is pronounced "ee-day"; the site name should be pronounced as "Idé Today". You can also look in the archive of past entries or post any comments that you may have. |

I've finished up my first year of university and have started working as an intern doing Web design, Linux server configuration, and proof-of-concept works. Overall, things are going well, and I also can't wait to go back to school. But in the mean time, I've decided to change the blog software I'm using; currently I use a template that I entirely wrote myself, which was meant to be both a learning experience and a showcasing of work for college applications. It's not a bad piece of work per se, but it's not full-featured with nice comments and pingbacks and the bells and whistles that more established services offer. So, I'm going to try out Wordpress as my new blogging platform, since it's pretty widely used and I can host it on a server that I share with a friend. The main alternative was Blogger, but I'm going to give Wordpress a shot, and have some fun playing with the layout. I think it will be a fun experience for the next year. Some personal notes about the last year… First year at Berkeley was pretty good, although I never did finish that Sun Certified Java Developer project as I lost all the source code! How I did that when I had copies of it on three computers, I'll never know. That A- in Japanese probably could have been avoided if I had done a project instead of a paper, and I would have saved many hours. EECS is an awesome major over all, at least so far, although I can see it becoming more difficult very quickly. I need to finish up some projects, dig up the design notes for my SJCD project (fortunately a lot of thread-critical code is in a notebook), get started on new ones, and move on with life. But that's how it will always be until I have my personal airship and island :D |
